The way it feels
It feels like what we see and do is the crusty surface of a cosmic wave in a bottomless ocean. It feels like the stuff we hold, the decisions we make, the sensations we’re alert to, the questions we ask and the answers we satisfy ourselves with, the ideas we conjure and the laws we order ourselves by, are the frothy peaks of immense surges of spaceless, timeless energy, beyond our knowledge or control. It feels like any mundane object or simple human act, when held in a certain light, can melt instantly into something utterly unfathomable.
Humans are blessed and cursed with access to these feelings. This category of feelings, reflecting on sliver of a universal truth, puts us in an awkward position. Our wave will crash and swallow us whole, but unlike other cosmic material, we can’t drown in peace.
I am a designer. Design is my sliver. I use it as a lens to melt things down. Design today is basically a modern concept, existing in the realm of products, marketing and commerce, where creativity is commoditised and craft is formalised. But I see design as a fundamental aspect of our humanity. The expression of our connection to the creative, animating force of the universe.
This is obviously a ridiculous overreach. But I don’t really care. It’s just the way it feels.
… and/or, tell another earthling.
